Microsoft's President, Brad Smith, highlighted the importance of having clear objectives and principles for regulating artificial intelligence (AI). He called for the development of a comprehensive "regulatory blueprint" that would involve collaboration from various sectors including private companies, governments, and the global community. Smith expressed the public's desire for reassurance that AI technology will remain under human guidance and control.

He noted that people's concerns might arise from seeing fictional depictions of AI going awry in movies. Recognizing the futuristic nature of AI, Smith stressed the necessity for both companies and regulatory bodies to concentrate on ensuring its responsible development.

Speaking at the B20 Summit India 2023 during a session focused on 'AI for Business and Societies: Opportunities and Regulations,' Brad Smith, who also serves as Microsoft's Vice Chair, underscored the urgency of establishing a regulatory framework supported by governments and private enterprises worldwide.

"This means that certain principles will be put into action at different levels of AI usage," he explained. "Some principles will be applied when designing specific applications, some during the creation of AI models, and others at the broader cloud or data center level."

He mentioned that this regulatory blueprint will need to be implemented by ensuring that businesses using AI understand their customers and the purpose of AI deployment.

"It implies a strong emphasis on identifying the specific cloud environment where AI is being used and a heightened awareness of the content generated, particularly if it's produced by AI," he elaborated.
